Training Intensity
How heavy the weight is relative to your maximum, or how hard you work during a set.
Training intensity can refer to the percentage of your 1RM being lifted (e.g., 80% of max) or how close to failure you train (RPE/RIR). High-intensity training uses heavier weights for fewer reps, while moderate intensity uses lighter weights for more reps. Both intensity and volume must be balanced for optimal progress.
Examples
- 85% of 1RM = high intensity
- RPE 9 = high intensity (close to failure)
- Balancing intensity and volume
