RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion)
A scale measuring how hard an exercise feels, typically from 1-10.
Rate of Perceived Exertion is a subjective measure of exercise intensity on a 1-10 scale. RPE 10 means maximum effort (failure), while RPE 7 means you could do 3 more reps. This autoregulation method helps adjust training based on daily readiness. When you feel strong, you can push harder; when fatigued, you can back off. It accounts for daily variations in strength.
Examples
- RPE 8 = 2 reps left in the tank
- Squat singles at RPE 9
- Adjusting weight based on daily RPE
