Tabata
A high-intensity interval protocol of 20 seconds work followed by 10 seconds rest.
Tabata is a specific HIIT protocol developed by Japanese researcher Dr. Izumi Tabata. It consists of 8 rounds of 20 seconds maximum effort followed by 10 seconds rest, totaling 4 minutes. Originally tested on cyclists, it dramatically improved both aerobic and anaerobic capacity. True Tabata requires all-out effort during work intervals.
