RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion)
A subjective scale rating exercise intensity based on how hard it feels.
RPE uses a scale (typically 1-10 or 6-20) to rate how hard exercise feels. RPE 10 means maximal effort with no reps left; RPE 8 means 2 reps in reserve. RPE auto-regulates training to daily readiness - heavier weight on good days, lighter on bad days. It requires practice to calibrate accurately.
Examples
- RPE 8 = 2 reps in reserve
- RPE 10 = maximal effort
- Used to autoregulate training
