Post-Exhaustion

Performing an isolation exercise after a compound to fully fatigue the target muscle.

Post-exhaustion follows compound exercises with isolation movements to finish off the target muscle. After synergists are fatigued from compounds, isolation exercises can fully fatigue the primary muscle. This is generally considered more effective than pre-exhaustion for most goals and is a common training approach.

Examples

  • Bench press followed by cable flyes
  • Squats followed by leg extensions
  • Rows followed by bicep curls
