Isolation Exercise
An exercise that targets a single muscle group using one joint.
Isolation exercises focus on a single muscle by moving through one joint. They are useful for targeting weak points, adding volume to specific muscles, and creating muscle definition. While compound movements should form the base of your training, isolation exercises help fill in the gaps. Examples include bicep curls, tricep extensions, and leg curls.
Examples
- Bicep curls target only the biceps
- Leg curls isolate the hamstrings
- Lateral raises focus on side deltoids
