Lean Body Mass
Total body weight minus fat mass, including muscle, bone, and organs.
Lean body mass is everything in your body except fat - muscle, bone, organs, and water. Tracking LBM changes helps distinguish between muscle gain and fat gain. The goal of body recomposition is to increase LBM while decreasing fat mass. LBM is calculated from body fat percentage.
Examples
- LBM = Total weight - fat mass
- Gaining LBM while losing fat = recomp
- More relevant than scale weight
