CNS Fatigue
Fatigue originating in the nervous system that reduces force production.
Central nervous system (CNS) fatigue occurs when the nervous system's ability to maximally activate muscles is reduced. This happens from intense, heavy, or high-volume training. Symptoms include reduced motivation, decreased coordination, and inability to produce maximal force. CNS fatigue requires rest, not just muscle recovery.
Examples
- Feeling "flat" despite rested muscles
- Common after maximal lifts or competitions
- Requires additional recovery time
