Obliques
The muscles on the sides of the abdomen responsible for rotation and lateral flexion.
The external and internal obliques run diagonally along the sides of the abdomen. They rotate the trunk, flex it laterally, and assist in bracing the core. Training includes side planks, cable rotations, and woodchops. Obliques contribute to the complete core appearance but excessive development can widen the waist.
Examples
- Side planks for oblique strength
- Cable woodchops for oblique power
- Assist in all rotational movements
