Nutrient Partitioning

How the body directs nutrients toward muscle vs. fat storage.

Nutrient partitioning refers to whether calories are stored as muscle or fat, or used for energy. Better partitioning means more nutrients go to muscle building. Factors include genetics, hormone levels, training status, body composition, and nutrient timing. Resistance training improves partitioning toward muscle.

Examples

  • Trained individuals partition better
  • Leaner people partition better
  • Influenced by genetics
