Insulin Sensitivity

How effectively cells respond to insulin's signals.

Insulin sensitivity refers to how efficiently cells respond to insulin. High sensitivity means cells readily absorb glucose with small insulin amounts - this is healthy. Low sensitivity (insulin resistance) requires more insulin to achieve the same effect, potentially leading to type 2 diabetes. Exercise, muscle mass, and diet improve insulin sensitivity.

Examples

  • Improved by exercise and muscle mass
  • Worse with excess body fat
  • Higher after workouts
