Insulin
A hormone that regulates blood sugar and promotes nutrient storage.
Insulin is released by the pancreas in response to elevated blood sugar. It shuttles glucose into cells for energy or storage, promotes protein synthesis, and inhibits fat breakdown. Contrary to some claims, insulin is not inherently "bad" - it's necessary for muscle growth. Chronic high insulin (insulin resistance) is problematic.
Examples
- Released when blood sugar rises
- Helps nutrients enter cells
- Essential for muscle building
