Ligaments
Connective tissue that connects bones to other bones, stabilizing joints.
Ligaments are tough bands of tissue connecting bones at joints, providing stability and limiting excessive movement. Unlike tendons, ligaments have poor blood supply and heal slowly. Common ligament injuries include ACL and MCL tears in the knee. Strengthening muscles around joints helps protect ligaments.
Examples
- ACL: anterior cruciate ligament in knee
- Stabilize joints against excessive movement
- Heal slowly due to poor blood supply
