Cluster Sets

Breaking a set into mini-sets with short rest periods to lift heavier weights for more total reps.

Cluster sets break a traditional set into several smaller clusters with brief rests (10-30 seconds) between them. For example, instead of 5 straight reps, you might do 2-2-1 with 15-second rests. This allows more reps with heavier weights, making it effective for strength and power development.

Examples

  • 5x1 with 90% 1RM, 20 seconds rest between singles
  • 2+2+2 at 85% instead of 6 straight reps
  • Used for strength peaking
