Casein Protein
A slow-digesting milk protein that provides sustained amino acid release.
Casein is the other main milk protein, making up about 80% of milk protein. Unlike fast-digesting whey, casein forms a gel in the stomach and digests slowly over 6-8 hours. This makes it popular before bed to provide amino acids during the overnight fast. However, research shows minimal practical difference from whey.
Examples
- Slow digestion over 6-8 hours
- Popular as a pre-bed protein
- Greek yogurt is high in casein
