Accommodation
The decrease in response to a constant training stimulus over time.
Accommodation, also called the repeated bout effect, is when the body stops adapting to a training stimulus because it has become accustomed to it. This is why progressive overload and exercise variation are important. Changing exercises, rep ranges, tempos, or other variables can overcome accommodation and restart progress.
Examples
- Gains stalling on same program
- Need for exercise rotation
- Changing rep ranges every few weeks
