Why you'll love this recipe

This honey garlic salmon is restaurant-quality but incredibly simple to make at home. The sticky, caramelised glaze pairs perfectly with the rich, flaky salmon, and it's ready in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

For the salmon:

  • 4 salmon fillets (about 150g each)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

For the glaze:

  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the salmon: Pat salmon fillets dry and season with salt and pepper.

  2. Make the glaze: Whisk together honey, soy sauce, garlic, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes.

  3. Sear the salmon: Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe pan over medium-high heat. Place salmon skin-side up and cook for 3-4 minutes until golden.

  4. Add the glaze: Flip the salmon. Pour the glaze around the fillets. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 2 minutes.

  5. Finish cooking: Transfer pan to a 200°C oven and bake for 6-8 minutes until salmon flakes easily with a fork.

  6. Serve: Spoon extra glaze from the pan over the salmon before serving.

Tips for success

  • Don't overcook: Salmon continues cooking after removal from heat. It's ready when it just begins to flake.
  • Skin-on fillets: The skin helps hold the fillet together and can be easily removed after cooking.
  • Room temperature: Let salmon sit out for 10 minutes before cooking for more even results.

Variations

  • Asian style: Add ginger and swap lemon for rice vinegar.
  • Spicy: Increase red pepper flakes or add sriracha to the glaze.
  • Herb crusted: Top with fresh dill before serving.

Storage

Best eaten fresh. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 2 days. Not recommended for freezing as texture changes.
