Why you'll love this recipe

This green protein smoothie proves that healthy can taste amazing. The banana and natural sweetness completely mask the spinach, you get all the nutrients without tasting greens. Perfect for post-workout or a quick breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 1 large handful fresh spinach (about 30g)
  • 1 ripe banana (frozen works best)
  • 30g vanilla protein powder
  • 250ml unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 4-5 ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Add liquids first: Pour the almond milk into your blender. This helps the blades move freely.

  2. Add the spinach: Drop in the spinach and blend briefly until broken down. This prevents green chunks.

  3. Add remaining ingredients: Add the banana, protein powder, almond butter, and ice cubes.

  4. Blend until smooth: Blend on high for 60-90 seconds until completely smooth and creamy.

  5. Adjust consistency: Add more milk if too thick, or more ice if too thin.

Tips for success

  • Use frozen banana: Creates a thicker, creamier texture without needing lots of ice.
  • Blend spinach first: Always blend greens with liquid before adding other ingredients.
  • Make it sweeter: Add dates, honey, or a splash of apple juice.

Variations

  • Tropical green: Replace banana with mango and add coconut milk.
  • Chocolate green: Use chocolate protein powder and add 1 tablespoon cocoa.
  • Extra greens: Add kale, cucumber, or celery for more vegetables.

Storage

Best consumed immediately. Can be refrigerated for up to 4 hours but will separate, just shake or blend again.
