Training Age
The number of years a person has been consistently training with progressive resistance.
Training age differs from chronological age and is a key factor in programme design. Beginners (0-1 year training age) can progress session to session with simple linear periodisation. Intermediates (1-3 years) typically need weekly progression. Advanced lifters (3+ years) often require block periodisation with monthly progression cycles. Training age also affects recovery capacity, volume tolerance, and the rate of adaptation. Two people of the same age may need very different programmes based on their training history.
Examples
- Beginner: 0-12 months of consistent training
- Intermediate: 1-3 years with structured programming
