Tendon
Dense connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone.
Tendons are strong, fibrous connective tissue that connect muscles to bones. They transmit the force generated by muscles to move the skeleton. Tendons are composed primarily of collagen and have limited blood supply, leading to slower healing. Tendon strength increases with training but adapts more slowly than muscle.
Examples
- Achilles tendon connects calf to heel
- Patellar tendon connects quad to tibia
- Tendons adapt slower than muscle
