Spotter
A training partner who assists during exercises for safety and to help with forced reps.
A spotter stands ready to assist if you cannot complete a rep, preventing injury. Good spotters intervene only when necessary and provide minimal assistance during forced reps. Spotters are essential for heavy bench pressing, squatting (if no safeties), and attempting PR lifts. They also provide motivation and safety.
Examples
- Spotting a heavy bench press attempt
- Hands-off spot unless assistance is needed
- Communicating rep goals beforehand
