Muscle Pump
The temporary swelling of muscles during exercise due to increased blood flow.
The pump is the temporary increase in muscle size during training caused by blood flowing into the muscles faster than it can leave. It creates a feeling of fullness and tightness. While satisfying, the pump is temporary and not a direct indicator of muscle growth, though it may contribute through metabolic stress.
Examples
- Tight, full feeling during arm training
- High reps and short rest maximize pump
- Arnold called it the best feeling in the gym
