NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis)
Calories burned through daily activities that aren't formal exercise.
NEAT includes all energy expended through daily activities like walking, fidgeting, standing, and doing chores - everything except sleeping, eating, and deliberate exercise. NEAT varies dramatically between individuals and can account for 15-50% of total daily expenditure. Low NEAT can offset calorie deficits; high NEAT supports fat loss.
