Calorie Surplus

Consuming more calories than your body burns, supporting weight and muscle gain.

A calorie surplus provides the extra energy needed to build muscle tissue. For muscle building without excessive fat gain, a moderate surplus of 200-500 calories per day is recommended. Combined with progressive resistance training and adequate protein, this surplus supports muscle growth while minimizing fat accumulation. A larger surplus leads to faster weight gain but more fat.

Examples

  • Eating 3,000 calories when burning 2,500
  • 300 calorie surplus for lean bulking
  • Clean bulk vs dirty bulk
