BCAAs (Branched-Chain Amino Acids)
Three essential amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine) important for muscle protein synthesis.
BCAAs are three essential amino acids with a branched molecular structure: leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Leucine is particularly important for triggering muscle protein synthesis. While popular as supplements, BCAAs are already present in adequate amounts in protein-rich foods and whey protein, making supplementation unnecessary for most.
Examples
- Leucine, isoleucine, and valine
- Present in all complete proteins
- Supplementation usually unnecessary
